Music Partnerships

First a duo – flutist Dan Giacobassi & Wanda began performing together in 1978. Well-received from the beginning, the pairing flourished into a lifelong friendship, and they’re still presenting concerts today.

Then a trio – When Karrie Potter (guitar, octave mandolin, banjo) asked Pooh Stevenson (cello, mandolin, banjo) & Wanda to join her in the newly formed Lady of the Lake, they both jumped at the chance. Part lively old-time string band, part gorgeous Celtic melodies, mixed in with contemporary Folk songs, the three women – all singers – started harmonizing in 1983. They had a good solid 12 years, or so, run and then reunions every 5 or 10 years. In 2023 they had a special 40th Anniversary Reunion Concert at the Ten Pound Fiddle to a large, enthusiastic audience.

Other collaborations were formed, notably with multi-instrumentalists/singer-songwriters Kitty Donohoe & Neil Woodward (the trio Catkin); the all-female band The Troublesome Lasses with Kitty, Tamineh Gueramy (fiddle), Pooh, and Taia Degen-Repas (flute); and as a duo with guitar & harmonica player Pete Wittig starting in 2001.

Mother/Daughter music – In addition to The Troublesome Lasses, Wanda & her daughter Taia Degen-Repas played together as the duo Damselfly for just a few short, fun years beginning in 1999. Taia is a flute player who credits Dan Giacobassi as her early inspiration.

The more recent past – with Kay Rinker-O’Neil (guitar & flute) as the duo, The Catbird Seat. Kay & Wanda are highly regarded for their harmony vocals. They were active from early 2013 to early 2020 and do occasionally make music together for special occasions. They released two recordings that are still available as CDs.
