Performing together since 1983, Lady of the Lake has a loyal following in the Great Lakes Region and the Midwest. This seasoned trio weaves two- and three-part vocal harmonies with multi-instrumental backup to create beautiful contemporary folk/roots arrangements that are sometimes gentle, sometimes fun, sometimes haunting, and always enjoyable. Instrumentation includes autoharp, mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, banjo, cello, mandolin, guitar and octave mandolin. Lady of the Lake hails from Lansing, Michigan, home of Elderly Instruments and a thriving and vibrant music community. Their recordings include Wild Rose (1987, re-released on CD in 2003), as well as solo projects, as members of other bands, and through back-up on recording projects of other musicians. Wanda Degen, Karrie Potter and Pooh Stevenson bring together a wealth of professional experience when performing as Lady of the Lake... Wanda Degen's many musical collaborations include the duo Damselfly, the trio Catkin, the Celtic group The Troublesome Lasses, and long-time partnerships with Dan Giacobassi and Kitty Donohoe. She and her most recent partner Pete Wittig are listed in the Michigan Arts and Humanities Touring Directory. As a Michigan Wolf Trap Artist, Wanda conducts workshops and residencies around the state training teachers to incorporate the performing arts into the preschool curriculum. Wanda also teaches private lessons on autoharp and both kinds of dulcimer at Elderly Instruments in Lansing. She has released five recordings on her own label including the well-received, all-instrumental CD, The Valley of Abundance, and her latest recording, Of Woods and Water: Songs of the Great Lakes Region. Wanda plays autoharp, mountain dulcimer and hammered dulcimer when performing with Lady of the Lake. Karrie Potter played with the former Bosom Buddies Stringband (1978 to 1982) whose performances on "A Prairie Home Companion" brought them national attention. She has been performing and teaching folk music in the Lansing area since 1976; she teaches guitar and banjo at Elderly Instruments. |
